Body-Art, as a profession, is both physically and mentally challenging. The Evolutionary Studios Apprenticeship Program is more difficult than many college degree programs. Applicants should have a strong commitment to learning in both classroom and studio settings.



Evolutionary Studios has a strong commitment to protecting individualism. As such, employees are often introduced to clients who have convictions that may vastly differ from their own. Employees are required to maintain an all-inclusive atmosphere at all times.



The Evolutionary Studios Apprenticeship Program takes a minimum of twelve months to compete. Much like a college degree program, earning a living wage while in training may be difficult. In fact, many apprentices have worked multiple jobs while in training.



If I am requested for an interview, I agree to bring a minimum of twelve physical samples of my artistic works.

Job Descriptions

Studio Assistant


Position Summary

An Evolutionary Studios Studio Assistant is a person who aids in the daily operation and maintenance of the studio. A Studio Assistant is often called upon to help Evolutionary Studios Tattoo and Body Piercing Artists with a wide range of tasks. 


It is important to note a Studio Assistant is not a Tattoo and Body Piercing Apprentice. However, the Studio Assistant position is a prerequisite for consideration for the Evolutionary Studios apprenticeship program. Although, no guarantees are promised or inferred that any Studio Assistant will be offered an apprenticeship position. 


Responsibilities

A Studio Assistant is responsible for managing client requests, scheduling body-art procedures, maintaining proper sterilization and safety techniques, client communication, communication with other studio personnel, completing administrative assignments, and general maintenance of the studio as a whole.


Some of these tasks may, at times, require a Studio Assistant to work outside of the physical location of Evolutionary Studios.


Due to the nature of body-art as an occupation employees are likely to come in contact with potentially infectious materials and people. Additional responsibilities may include lifting and/or repositioning studio patrons. Evolutionary Studios will make available some resources and training to prevent injury to employees.


Required Skills

Any person who wishes to apply for the position of Studio Assistant at Evolutionary Studios must meet the following minimum qualifications:


  • Must be at eighteen years of age or older


Additionally, Evolutionary Studios reserves the right to give preference to potential employees who possess additional medical and/or artistic experience.


Hours and Wages

The nature of work at Evolutionary Studios requires special consideration with regard to hours of work, scheduling, attendance, and punctuality. As such, Evolutionary Studios’ policy may differ significantly from those of other employment types. Employees of Evolutionary Studios are expected to continue to work each day until all tasks are completed, regardless of hours of work scheduled. Evolutionary Studios reserves the right to modify or amend the day(s) and/or hours of operation at any time, without notice. Additionally, the scheduled hours of work for any employee are subject to change at any time, without notice or consent.


All employees at Evolutionary Studios are evaluated on the basis of personal skill and merit. The starting wage for the Studio Assistant position is $7.50 per hour. Additional  information regarding wages is outlined in each employee’s Offer of Employment letter.

Tattoo and Body Piercing Apprentice


Position Summary

Sometimes referred to simply as “apprentice”, Evolutionary Studios Tattoo and Body Piercing Apprentices are student tradespeople who wish to possess substantial knowledge of body-art and related fields. Apprentices perform tattoo and piercing procedures, and other related works on studio patrons. Additionally, apprentices fulfill a support role to Evolutionary Studios officers.


Responsibilities

Tattoo and Body Piercing Apprentices are responsible for learning the trade of body-art, the timely performance of quality body-art procedures, and associated tasks. This includes, but is not limited to, managing client requests, conducting consultation appointments, scheduling body-art procedures, performing body-art procedures, providing appropriate aftercare instructions, maintaining proper sterilization and safety techniques, client communication, communication with other studio personnel, completing educational assignments, and general maintenance of the studio as a whole.


Some of these tasks may require artists to purchase and maintain their own equipment. It is also possible that assignments may, at times, require artists to work outside of the physical location of Evolutionary Studios.


Due to the nature of body-art as an occupation artists are likely to come into contact with potentially infectious materials and people. Additional responsibilities may include lifting and/or repositioning studio patrons. While Evolutionary Studios will make available some resources and training to prevent injury to artists, personal safety is ultimately the  personal responsibility of each individual.


Required Skills

Any person who wishes to apply for the position of Tattoo and Body Piercing Apprentice at Evolutionary Studios must meet the following minimum qualifications:


  • Must be at eighteen years of age or older
  • Must apply for a Tattoo Apprentice permit from the State of Tennessee Department of Health. The cost of the application is $140.00.
  • Must notify the county Health Department of intent to pursue a Body Piercing Artist permit from the State of Tennessee Department of Health. Upon completion of the requirements set forth in T.C.A 62-38, a permit application fee of $140.00 is due.
  • Must hold a current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and First Aid for children and adults prior to graduation from the apprenticeship program.
  • Must have previously held the position of Studio Assistant at Evolutionary Studios or request a waiver due to previous experience.


Additionally, Evolutionary Studios reserves the right to give preference to potential employees who possess additional medical and/or artistic experience.
